Therapeutic Massage in Montreall
What is Therapeutic Massage?
Massage can be categorized into two differ classifications: relaxation and therapeutic massage.
Relaxation massage focuses on relieving stress and often providing therapy for either the entire body or a large portion of it.
Therapeutic massage, on the other hand, focuses on a specific problem area of the body, such as the lower back, a knee, the neck or a particular muscle group, to relieve pain or promote the healing of an injury.
At its most basic, one could think of relaxation massage as focusing more on the mind and therapeutic massage focusing more on the body. Though many massages often encompass aspects of both.
Who benefits from a Therapeutic Massage?
As the therapy is designed to help specific issues it is not necessary the right choice for everyone. However, if you have an injury or recurring pain, then therapeutic massage is for you:
- Back Pain
- Neck Pain
- Tennis Elbow
- Carpel Tunnel
- Mobility Issues
- Knee Pain
- Shoulder Pain
- Hip Pain
- Foot/ Ankle Pain
What to expect from a therapeutic massage?
The first thing to expect when talking to Jennifer about receiving a therapeutic massage is a brief consultation on what specific issue you are trying to target.
Once the consultation is done then there will be a pre-massage to determine which muscle or muscle group is causing pain. This is because muscles are intimately interconnected and the pain you feel in one area may only be a symptom of an issue in another area.
For instance, lower back pain can often be a symptom of an issue in the leg, knee or foot. If your muscles and ligaments around the knee are under stress your body may compensate by slightly adjusting your lower back when you walk. Over time this adjustment can lead to chronic pain in the lower back. Thus, focusing only on the lower back will relieve pain but it will return as the underlying cause has not been addressed.
Once Jennifer has performed the pre-massage inspection then she will commence with a massage focusing on both the specific problem areas and the underlying issues.
